Engaged Households

120

Trees to be Planted

170,000

Project Area

100 ha

Project Overview

The Champasak region in Lao PDR is located approximately 700 kilometers south of the capital, Vientiane. Local communities in the area rely heavily on forests for essential needs such as food, firewood, and building materials, which has led to significant forest degradation.

The Asian Forest Cooperation Organization (AFoCO) has previously restored 2,800 hectares of degraded forest in Champasak through successful community-based efforts. Building on this achievement, the current project aims to restore the region’s degraded forests through agroforestry and to develop alternative sources of income. It also seeks to enhance carbon sinks to mitigate climate change and to promote biodiversity recovery.

The tree species to be planted include:

  • Paramichelia bailloni
  • Persea kurzii
  • Spondias axillaris
